Grenades and Thermal Detonators

When throwing a grenade, the thrower picks a target point and you determine difficulty based on range. Add +5 to +10 to the difficulty if the thrower cannot see the target point (throwing over a wall, etc.). If the roll meets or beats the difficulty number, the grenade lands on target. If it misses, use Grenade Deviation. Grenades may be contact-based (explode on impact) or time-based (explode after a set time). If set for less than five seconds, it explodes at the end of the round it was thrown.

Grenade Deviation

If the throw misses: Roll 1D to determine direction (using the Grenade Deviation Diagram).

Determine distance: Point-blank or short range: 1D meters Medium range: 2D meters Long range: 3D meters

Example: Thannik throws at five stormtroopers 20 meters away (medium range; Moderate difficulty number 14). He rolls Dexterity 4D (no grenade skill) and gets 11—miss. The gamemaster rolls 1D for direction and gets 4 (short). Because it was medium range, deviation distance is 2D; the gamemaster rolls 7. The grenade lands 7 meters short (13 meters total). The grenade's blast radius is 10 meters; the stormtroopers are 6–10 meters away, so each takes 2D damage. Thannik is more than 10 meters away, so he takes no damage.

Dodging Grenades

Characters can dodge grenades, but this represents diving for cover to avoid damage.

Example: Thannik throws at two stormtroopers 16 meters away (medium range; Moderate difficulty number 13). He rolls 17—hit. The stormtroopers dodge. If they roll 18+, they take no damage. If one rolls 17 or less, he still takes damage (and within 3 meters would take 5D damage).

Tossing Grenades Away

If there's time left, a brave character can grab a grenade and throw it away (many timers are set to five seconds). The character may: throw to a specific spot (normal difficulty), or throw "as far away as possible" (roll grenade or Dexterity; distance equals how far the roll sends it)

Example: Thannik sees a grenade land 1 meter in front of him—no explosion yet. Timer's too long. He grabs it and hurls it. His Dexterity roll is 13 (Moderate), which is medium range for a grenade (11–20 meters). That's far enough that Thannik is outside the blast radius—barely.
